The first rainbow Pride flag was premiered at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978. Designed by artist and activist Gilbert Baker, the flag featured eight colors, each with a distinct meaning, symbolizing diversity and acceptance. Although the original flag’s design was later simplified, it has become an internationally recognized emblem of the LGBTQ+ community, symbolizing hope, diversity, and unity. The debut of the rainbow flag not only marked a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history but also strengthened the visibility and cohesion of the community across the globe.
